Project details:

This project required Lawson & Lovell to remove an existing extension and build a new one, while maintaining and restoring the original portion of the existing federation brick bungalow. It was not an easy build but the result is an entertainer’s delight featuring a new open plan kitchen, and a dining and living area flowing out to a semi-enclosed external entertaining area and garden beyond.

New upper floor additions contain the master bedroom with walk-in robe, ensuite, and a study area. The home features a large double-height living room which takes advantage of the north-eastern aspect. A double height void over the living space is used to flood the house with natural light but maintain privacy from the neighbouring property.

The highly technical design employs passive solar design principles with the orientation of the windows, cross ventilation and high level operable windows for cooling by convection. This is complemented by high thermal mass using insulated concrete and reverse brick veneer external walls.

A neutral palate of materials combines polished concrete floors with timber sliding doors, and contrasted by light and dark bespoke joinery with highlights of timber veneer.
